PREPARE AND PACK THE BIKE
- Find out in advance: Check whether your airline transports sports baggage (e.g. bicycle in suitcase) and what charges apply.
- Register directly: Register your bike with the airline or travel agency when booking.
- Plan for costs: Registration may be subject to a fee, usually payable at check-in.
- Take events into account: Transportation is often included in cycling events – clarify beforehand.
- Before booking, find out whether the airline carries sports baggage (in this case a bicycle) and what the fees are.
Before booking, find out whether your airline accepts sports baggage - including your bike - and how much the fees are.
It is best to state directly when booking that your bike is traveling with you - whether at the travel agency or online. This way, the information will be forwarded directly to the airline and you will receive separate feedback.
Important to know: Registration with the airline is usually subject to a fee. If you do not receive any further notification, you usually simply pay the fees directly at the check-in counter.
At the airport: check-in and TSA guidelines
At the airport: check-in and TSA guidelines

- Check-in: Allow extra time for bulky baggage. For early flights, use the late-night check-in for a stress-free start.
- Baggage control: After check-in, you will be forwarded to the bulky baggage counter. All baggage is checked, partly automatically.
- TSA security: The TSA can open your baggage, but cannot always carefully re-seal it. Ask at check-in for a TSA agent to be present.
- More information: Details on TSA checks and permitted items can be found at www.tsa.gov/travel.
